About the Book
In Reading the Bible, Missing the Gospel, pastor and author Ben Connelly shows us how to recover God’s original intentions in light of the story of redemption. Connelly helps us celebrate and understand how Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection are truly good news for the tangible situations in our everyday lives. Biblical misunderstandings can lead to a small view of God—but truth overturns that. It expands our hearts for God and enables us to truly love others!

Editable Sermon Outlines & Slides
We’ve created four weeks of starting point sermon outlines and slides for you to edit and use for your church, training event, or group. Please do the good work of making these teachings “yours,” but also feel free to use these outlines and slides however they best fit your context and needs.
Group Discussion
The first time your group meets to introduce the book, walk them through the section titled “Y’all” in the Introduction. It explains the structure of the book and the best ways to approach it. The Field Guide includes group discussion questions at the end of each week. For your members to be fully engaged, it’s best to individually read and reflect on that Week’s content before meeting each week. You will find interview videos that can help introduce discussion in your group meetings on this page.

Discuss Ch. 5 - 7 and watch “Video 4” together. Homework: Read Ch. 8 - 9 and Postlude on your own to discuss in Week 5.
Week 5
Discuss Ch. 8 - Postlude; watch “Video 5”; discuss next steps.
